MIMICO has been awarded the Ian Rodger Memorial Trophy at the 2026 QuarryNZ Conference in Invercargill.
Presented by the Institute of Quarrying New Zealand, the award recognises a supplier organisation or industry partner that has demonstrated outstanding and ongoing support for the New Zealand quarrying industry and IOQ NZ.
It acknowledges those whose commitment, collaboration and contribution have helped strengthen the Institute, support industry development and enable professional growth across the sector.
For MIMICO, the award reflects more than 35 years of working alongside quarry operators throughout New Zealand.
Supporting New Zealand’s quarrying industry
Since MIMICO was established, the quarrying industry has remained a significant part of the business.
Our Material Processing team works with quarry operators to develop and support crushing, screening, conveying and processing solutions suited to the requirements of each site.
This support extends beyond the initial supply of equipment. MIMICO remains involved throughout the operating life of a plant, helping customers with commissioning, training, servicing, upgrades, parts support and ongoing plant optimisation.
The business also works closely with equipment manufacturers, contractors and industry partners to develop practical solutions that improve production, material handling efficiency and long-term operating performance.
Ongoing involvement with IOQ NZ
MIMICO has maintained a long-standing relationship with IOQ NZ through conference participation, regional branch involvement, technical presentations, industry training and practical knowledge sharing.
MIMICO team members have presented at QuarryNZ conferences on multiple occasions since 2015, sharing technical information and real-world project experience across areas such as:
- Crushing and screening applications
- Plant optimisation
- Electrification
- Material handling
- Process efficiency
- Equipment operation and maintenance
The business has also supported IOQ NZ branch events and meetings across Auckland, Northland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty, and Otago.
MIMICO has participated in the Jim Macdonald Memorial Lecture Tours in 2021, 2023 and 2025, supporting the delivery of technical knowledge and professional development opportunities throughout the industry.
Alongside formal events, the team regularly supports customer training, operational walkthroughs, equipment demonstrations, commissioning and technical discussions at quarry sites across the country.
Practical solutions for quarry operations
MIMICO’s contribution to the industry is also reflected in the plant solutions delivered alongside New Zealand quarry operators.
These projects often bring together equipment supply, process knowledge, engineering, supplier collaboration and ongoing site support.
Tapora Resources silica sand processing plant
MIMICO worked with Superior Industries to deliver a purpose-built silica sand processing plant for Tapora Resources.
The plant was designed to meet tight glass-grade product specifications, including strict limits on iron content and fine material.
The completed plant achieved the required product specifications while also exceeding the required production capacity.
The project demonstrated the importance of combining specialist equipment with process knowledge and a plant design developed specifically for the application.
Stevenson Aggregates Drury pre-crush plant
At Stevenson Aggregates in Drury, MIMICO supplied and supported an electrified modular crushing solution designed to increase production and reduce reliance on diesel-powered equipment.
The solution included:
- A Metso LT130 diesel-electric jaw crusher
- A 750 tonne-per-hour in-pit overland conveyor
- A Nordwheeler scalping and secondary crushing circuit
The project replaced a traditional mobile crushing and haulage arrangement.
It increased throughput, improved material handling efficiency and contributed to a reported 33.3 per cent reduction in diesel consumption.
Road Metals conveyor and stockpiling system
MIMICO also delivered a material handling solution for Road Metals that included three 300 metre overland conveyors and a 36-inch by 130-foot TeleStacker stockpiling conveyor.
The system removed the need for two 40-tonne haul trucks and reduced the requirement for further fleet expansion.
It also helped reduce operating costs and diesel consumption while improving stockpile quality and downstream plant performance.
