Mimico's story.
A local story of hard work, growth, and nationwide service.
Not bad for a parts shop from Matamata
From Small Beginnings to National Reach.
MIMICO’s journey started with a single vision: to support New Zealand’s construction, quarrying, and heavy equipment industries with reliable service and the right gear.
Founded over 35 years ago by Rex Davies, the business has grown from a local parts supplier into a nationwide operation with more than 130 staff across multiple divisions.
Diesel in the veins, tools in hand
Built on Grit, Guts, and Gear.
Rex’s career began in the truck industry as an apprentice mechanic, later leading him through stints in Australia and back to Rotorua, working in forestry and land clearing.
Eventually settling in Matamata as a contract mechanic, he saw first-hand what contractors really needed – honest service, quality parts, and support they could count on. That customer-first mindset became the backbone of MIMICO.
Big names, bigger jobs - and we kept up.
From a Local Workshop to National Brands.
What started as a small operation has evolved into a trusted distributor for major international brands across construction, material processing, and crane equipment.
Over the years, MIMICO has supplied landmark projects – from ALPURT’s highway work with Moxy trucks to post-earthquake rebuilds in Christchurch. Becoming Metso’s official nationwide dealer marked a turning point, and in 2019, MIMICO was recognised globally as Metso Dealer of the World.
You don’t build a business - you build a team.
Powered by People.
MIMICO’s growth has always been driven by its people. Rex often says that good people are the key to a good business – and the strength of the team is a point of pride. Many long-serving staff members have helped shape MIMICO’s identity, building lasting relationships with customers and suppliers alike.
Service still comes first - no matter how big we get.
Staying True to Our Roots.
Through supplier changes, shifting markets, and industry challenges, MIMICO has stayed committed to what matters: service, relationships, and keeping New Zealand’s equipment moving. The company’s success is built on trust, hard work, and a belief in doing things the right way.
Today, MIMICO continues to grow while staying grounded in its values. We’re proud to support contractors, quarries, councils, and operators across New Zealand – and even prouder of the people behind the business who make it all happen.
