customer spotlight: Winstone Aggregates – Metso GP550 Cone Crusher Installation

Winstone Aggregates operates as one of New Zealand’s largest aggregate producers, supplying products and services to the concrete, roading, rail, and infrastructure sectors. With a network of quarries, clean fills, laboratories, and transport fleet, Winstone plays a critical role in the country’s construction supply chain.

When their existing Sandvik H6000 cone crusher reached the end of its service life, Winstone turned to MIMICO to deliver a modern replacement solution. After evaluating equipment options, Winstone selected the Metso GP550 cone crusher, known for its high capacity, reliability, and consistent performance.

MIMICO Engineering provided a full turnkey solution — managing the design, fabrication, and installation. With a tight installation window required to minimise production disruption, MIMICO’s 3D design capability played a critical role in planning the integration. This approach allowed the team to resolve potential conflicts ahead of time and streamline onsite work.

As part of the installation, MIMICO fabricated a custom sub-frame with rubber dampers to manage vibration and isolate loads, along with new vee-belt guarding to suit the layout and ensure safety compliance.

Project Highlights:

  • First Metso GP550 cone crusher installed in New Zealand

  • Full 3D design used to model and plan installation

  • Custom fabricated sub-frame with rubber dampers

  • New vee-belt guarding supplied for full integration

  • Tight installation timeline to minimise production downtime

By combining Metso’s proven technology with MIMICO Engineering’s design expertise and project delivery, Winstone Aggregates successfully upgraded their plant with minimal disruption and long-term performance benefits.
