Horokiwi Quarries Ltd supplies a wide range of aggregate products to the Wellington region, including specialty sands used across the concrete and asphalt industries. As part of continual improvements to their processing operations, Horokiwi identified the need to modernise their sand washing circuit.
MIMICO Engineering was engaged to supply and install a Superior Industries 36” Aggredry fine material washer to replace the site’s ageing bucket wheel dewaterer. The Aggredry combines a fine material washer (sand screw) with an integrated dewatering screen, producing a mechanically dry, clean manufactured sand that improves both product quality and handling efficiency.
The simplified circuit design allowed for the removal of a conveyor from the system, while the mechanically dried product allows for stockpiling and conveying in all weather conditions. As part of the upgrade, MIMICO Engineering also designed and installed a new support structure complete with walkways around the cross conveyor, under the Aggredry, and above the tub for safe operator access and maintenance.
The site also operates full water recirculation, with wash water treated on-site via a MIMICO LT-500 Lamella water clarifier before being reused in the washing process, ensuring efficient water management.
