Horokiwi Quarries Ltd is a leading supplier of aggregates for the Wellington region, operating from their strategically located site just off State Highway 2. The quarry supplies a wide range of materials including specialty sands, basecourse, sealing chip, builders mix, and drainage metal for both commercial and residential use.
After years of service, one of Horokiwi’s key transfer conveyors had reached the end of its operational life and required full replacement. MIMICO Engineering was tasked with delivering a complete conveyor solution that would integrate into the existing site with minimal impact to ongoing production.
Following detailed site measurements, MIMICO Engineering developed a full 3D design of the new conveyor, incorporating a gravity take-up system integrated into the centre support column to optimise belt tensioning and alignment. The conveyor was fabricated and galvanised at MIMICO’s Auckland facility prior to installation.
To limit downtime, the entire removal and installation process was completed over a single weekend. The old conveyor was decommissioned and removed in stages, with the new conveyor assembled in parallel and shifted into final position for commissioning.
