About the Customer
Horokiwi Quarries Ltd is a premier supplier of quality aggregates to the Wellington region from their quarry located off State Highway 2 between Petone and Wellington.
The quarry produces a wide range of products to ensure customer satisfaction and meet product specification. Products range from specialty sands for the concrete and asphalt industries, basecourse and sealing chip for roading, and builders mix and drainage metal for the home handyman.
Problem
Horokiwi Quarries needed to upgrade their wash plant.
Solution
MIMICO Engineering completed the installation of a Superior Industries 36” Aggredry fine material washer.
The Aggredry replaced the customer’s existing bucket wheel dewaterer. The Aggredry offers a unique combination of fine material washer (sand screw) and dewatering screen to produce an exceptional clean and mechanically dry washed manufactured sand.

MIMICO brought experience and expertise to this project, along with a level of trust built up over years of working with Horokiwi Quarries. As the New Zealand distributor of Superior Industries wash plants, we were able to install an Aggredry fine material washer.
Project Highlights
- Superior Industries 36” Aggredry fine material washer.
- Simplified circuit. Installation of the Aggedry enabled the removal of a conveyor from the system.
- Conveyable product. The product from the Aggredry being mechanically dry allows for the conveying of product in any weather conditions.
- New support structure installed with walkways around cross conveyor, under Aggredry and above tub of Aggredry.
- Full water recirculating on site. Wash water is treated with a MIMICO LT-500 Lamella water clarifier and then reused to aggregate washing process.
