Metso’s Nordberg HP Series cone crusher
With more than 10,000 units sold, Metso’s Nordberg HP Series is the most popular range of cone crusher in the world, and with good reason. The HP Series crusher has proven to be an outstanding performer in thousands of mining, industrial and quarrying applications, with high capacity, end-product quality, energy efficiency and easy maintenance.
These qualities have helped the HP build an unrivalled reputation over the last couple of decades.
Nordberg HP Series cone crushers are characterised by the optimised combination of crusher speed, eccentricity, and cavity profile. This formula provides higher capacity, better product quality and suitability to a wider range of applications.
From limestone to compact hematite, from ballast to manufactured sand production, and from small aggregate plants to large mining operations, Nordberg HP Series cone crushers are unbeatable in secondary, tertiary, and quaternary applications.
The benchmark in New Zealand
Nordberg HP Series cone crushers are available from MIMICO, which is the sole New Zealand distributor of Metso equipment, parts, and service support. The HP Series is offered as stationary models, with many also available in mobile or portable versions.
The HP cone is a familiar site in many New Zealand quarries, with the HP200 and HP300 having been the mainstay of crushing in New Zealand for over 25 years.
“With hundreds of thousands of crushing hours in New Zealand conditions, these machines have been the benchmark for secondary and tertiary crushing here,” said Garth Taylor, MIMICO’s Crushing and Screening Manager.
The introduction of the Lokotrack LT200HP in mid-2000’s saw the well-proven HP200 go mobile. The versatile LT200HP is typically used as a secondary crusher in conjunction with a primary crushing plant in multi-stage crushing applications like railroad ballast, asphalt, and concrete fraction production. It is easy to move between sites thanks to its compact transportation dimensions.
“The portability and production rate of the LT200HP has been well suited to many New Zealand quarries and contractors,” explained Taylor.

Field proven for years, HP Series cone crushers are built to perform. The HP Series features a unique combination of crusher speed, throw, crushing forces and cavity design. This combination is renowned for providing higher capacity and superior end-product quality in all secondary, tertiary, and quaternary applications.
Increasing the stroke, the power, and the retaining force, while improving crusher body design and weight to withstand the force, are principles of kinematics. A higher density in the crushing chamber improves the inter-particle crushing action, resulting in superior product shape, high reduction ratio and high capacity.
Cost efficient and ecological
In a size-class comparison, HP Series cone crushers have a higher output capacity, higher density in the crushing chamber and better reduction ratio, producing higher on-spec yield end-products with the same energy consumption. HP Series machines are equipped with the latest high-efficiency motors, making them efficient and ecological crushing machines.
The HP Series produces finer products by limiting crushing stages, which lowers your investment cost and saves energy. This is achieved through a combination of optimised speed, large throw, crushing chamber design and increased crushing force. The efficient crushing action of the HP Series gives it the best power utilisation per cone diameter.
Safe and user friendly
HP Series cone crushers are safe and easy to maintain. Fast and easy access to all the main components from the top, dual-acting hydraulic cylinders, and no backing material significantly reduces downtime and is more environmentally friendly. They are engineered to ensure maximum operator safety and easy maintenance in what can be potentially hazardous environments.
Accessibility from the top of the crusher to the principal components, easy access for liner maintenance and mechanical rotation of the bowl for removal with a simple press of a button ensure these crushers are safe and easy to maintain.
OEM parts are a perfect fit
Original equipment replacement parts for the HP Series range ensure proper fit, form, and function to reduce maintenance issues and increase longevity. If equipment fails, productivity of an entire plant is at risk. To avoid such losses, critical replacement parts are readily available when you need them.
MIMICO, via Metso’s global distribution logistics network, ensures that OEM spare and wear parts are available to help their customers equip their success. Through Metso, MIMICO has a complete offering for both standard and engineered-to-order parts, ensuring the availability and support required.
The evolution continues
The new high capacity HP900 cone crusher has just been released by Metso and is an upgrade of the HP800 unit. The HP900 comes with new kinematics, a compact design and automation system that ensures an increase in performance while also reducing CAPEX.
While the HP900 comes with a new kinematic design and raised pivot points, it still shares about 80% of the same components are previous HP models. So, even though it is new technology it comes from a strong legacy in cone crushing so you can expect results.
Metso’s HP, MX, and GP Series cone crushers feature a unique combination of crusher cavity design, crushing forces, reliability, and safety. This combination is renowned for providing higher capacity and an excellent end-product quality in all secondary, tertiary, and quaternary applications. Metso’s cone crushers are built to perform with the lowest cost per ton. Find out more HERE.
